St. Petersburg International Economic Forum

On June 2, a round table was held at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF'21) : "Water pollution by microplastics as an actual problem of our time".

The round table was moderated by the Director of the Association of Environmental Partnerships (NP "AsEP") Boris Krylov and Olga Senova, Chairman of the Board of the interregional environmental organization "Friends of the Baltic".

The reports and presentations at the round table were presented by Mikhail Strakhov, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Nature Management, Environmental Protection and Environmental Safety of St. Petersburg, Pavel Mikhailov, Director of the Nature Management Directorate of the State Unitary Enterprise Vodokanal of St. Petersburg, Shamil Pozdnyakov, Director of the Institute of Lake Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexandra Yershova, Associate Professor of the Russian State Hydrometeorological University, and other specialists.

The main ways of microplastics entering the water area of the region (Lake Ladoga – Gulf of Finland) were considered and its increasing accumulation in all media was noted.

The discussions highlighted not only the relevance of continuing research, but also the importance of reducing the use of single-use plastic, as well as the proper disposal of reusable plastic. It was noted that new strategies and technologies for handling plastic are needed.

The development of rational approaches in this direction can be facilitated by the developments of the projects of the cross-border cooperation Program "South-Eastern Finland – Russia 2014-2020": BBC1 "Business in biotechnology and circular economy" and Cool4City "Clean green city by smart waste management".

Final conference of the project "Innovative information technologies for analyzing the negative impact on the forests of the border region" (KS1309, InnoForestView)

On May 28, the final conference of the project "Innovative information technologies for analyzing the negative impact on the forests of the border region" (KS1309, InnoForestView), implemented within the framework of the cross – border cooperation Program "South-Eastern Finland – Russia" for the period 2014-2020, was held. The event was organized by the leading partner of the projects KS1309 InnoForestView and KS11173 Cool4City - St. Petersburg state unitary enterprise «St. Petersburg information and analytical center». The conference was held in a hybrid format.

Russian partners in the Cool4City project-representatives of NP "AsEP" attended the event in person. The project partners from the Finnish side attended the event online.

Representatives of the Governing body of the cross – border cooperation Program "South-Eastern Finland – Russia 2014-2020", the Leading Partner of the project, the Committee for Informatization and Communications, the state state institution "Directorate of Specially Protected Natural Territories of St. Petersburg", as well as the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg were heard welcoming speeches.

Reports on the results of the project were presented at the event, as well as a demonstration of the developed innovative information system for analyzing the state of forests in the border region.

As part of the summing up, an open meeting of the Supervisory board was held.

The participants of the event were given information materials prepared within the framework of the project.

The webinar "Waste management: Russian and Finnish experience" was held

On May 25, a training webinar "Waste management: Russian and Finnish experience" was held. Reports of Russian and Finnish experts in this field were presented. The total number of participants was 51 people. The webinar also presented the released training manual "Waste management: Russian and Finnish experience".

New treatment facilities in Mikkeli

Wastewater treatment plants with the possibility of reusing treated water are being put into operation in the Finnish city of Mikkeli.

On May 19-21, KOSMOS LLC took part in the program "Navigator of the Innovator. GreenTech"

On May 19, representatives of KOSMOS LLC visited ITMO University, where they presented information about the Cata3Pult project. The speakers of this event also became: Nikolay Pitirimov - Head of the St. Petersburg Cluster of Clean Technologies in the Urban Environment, Alexey Asach - Ability of energy and environmental technologies, Oleg Pertsovsky - Director of the cluster of energy-efficient technologies of the Skolkovo Foundation.

On May 21, we took part in the hybrid event of the Program "Navigator of the Innovator. GreenTech" - Lecture "Finnish experience and lessons learned from the cluster approach to GreenTech Innovation and Development", Evilina Lutfi - Business Development Director of Green Net Finland (participates on behalf of the Cata3Pult project).

On May 18, the third meeting of the group on interaction and cooperation of five projects: Cata3Pult, Cool4City, BBC1, LALAPETE and CroBoDDIT of the Cross – border Cooperation Program "South-Eastern Finland – Russia 2014-2020" was held.

During the meeting, the signing of the cooperation agreement and upcoming events were discussed:

On May 12, we took part in the online seminar "Forest pollution as an environmental problem in the border area of Russia and Finland". The seminar was held within the framework of the project "Innovative information technologies for analyzing the negative impact on the forests of the border region" – InnoForestView KS1309. The project was implemented under the cross-border cooperation program "South-Eastern Finland – Russia 2014-2020".
